The Association was re-formed in September 2006 to enable former pupils and staff of Henry Thornton School, Clapham, to stay in touch with one another, and to share views, news, memories and information relevant to both the school's and their own history

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Objectives

  • To provide a forum for Association members to exchange information and to stay in touch by various means: the newsletter, this website, e-mail, reunions and the membership directory
  • To serve as a focal point as appropriate for any UK regional or overseas communities of Old Thorntonians who may arrange to meet for local social events and reunions
  • To publish a newsletter approximately three times a year

News

Reunions: around 35 OTs attended the tenth reunion on 4 October 2014. .  A particularly warm welcome was extended to Associate member Mrs Adele Wright, daughter of Mr C W Gribble, who served as a senior member of the teaching staff from 1920 to 1954. PLEASE NOTE: it may be necessary to re-arrange this year's reunion, currently scheduled for Saturday 3 October.  More information will be given as soon as it becomes available. (Ted Hayward, 2 July) .

2016 AGM:  to be held at 2pm on Saturday 26 March; at Lambeth Academy, Elms Road.

Commemorative plaqueThe Mayor of Lambeth unveiled the plaque, in Elms Road, on Saturday 21 March 2015 at a ceremony attended by 16 OTs, local councillors and others, including representatives of the Clapham Society.  Further information, with selected photographs, was given in newsletter no 30 (April 2015) and also appears on a dedicated page of the website:  select Memorabilia from the Home page menu, then click on Plaque Unveiling.

Pupil honours boards:  the five boards covering the period 1918-50 inclusive are now back on display at Lambeth Academy in their new "home", the Sixth Form study area. To show the layout, one photo, of the set as originally housed in the Academy's conference room, has been posted in the Pupils (2) gallery.  The remaining entries, for 1951-68, are housed at Lambeth College, South Side.  (Also in Pupils (2) is a transcribed list of names and years of all the pupils concerned.  Click on Memorabilia on the Home page menu to access this and the other  galleries.)

Former Staff:   pass the word to Ted if you know of any ex-staff who might be interested in membership of the Association, or at least in learning more about its existence and work.
